Why I do this work
Yoga therapy has been a pivotal anchor to my healing process and it is something I desire to share with others. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, physical and mental unprocessed trauma, burnout, stress, chronic pain, constantly living in a state of survival mode, using substances as coping skills, a people pleaser, and letting my emotions control everything. Yoga therapy helped me to move through all of these things and more. Movement was essential for me alongside talk therapy and I am now at a point in my life where I feel the healthiest I have ever been.
I truly believe that we can heal ourselves through the support and encouragement of others. We are often led to believe that our bodies are separate from who we are but our bodies hold so much wisdom, if we listen and understand what we need. This is a process I am still learning every day, it is a muscle that builds over time. As a former athlete I learned to beat my body into submission and ignore the pain. Understanding yoga philosophically, not just in movement alone, allowed me to reconnect to my body, listening to when I needed more gentleness or challenge. I learned how to stop striving for perfection in poses and began to adjust and modify what my body needed to grow and heal. Yoga therapy, meeting your body and mind where you are at right now, is a passion of mine and I continue to learn every day from my own self study but also from my students and clients.
Before becoming a yoga instructor, I worked in special education and nonprofit settings, supporting students and adults with diverse learning, physical, emotional, and sensory needs. These experiences shaped how I understand regulation, behavior, trauma, and the importance of individualized support.
That foundation continues to inform my yoga teaching today. I bring:
- A deep understanding of disability and accessibility
- Experience supporting emotional regulation and nervous-system needs
- A collaborative, strengths-based approach
- Respect for autonomy, consent, and lived experience
My work is especially well-suited for:
- People with physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities
- Seniors and older adults
- Individuals navigating chronic stress, illness, or pain
- Schools, adult day programs, and nonprofit organizations
- Anyone looking to reconnect with their bodies
